Why do we recognize foreign qualifications?

Session Information

Assessing foreign credentials is crucial to verify and recognize qualifications attained in other countries. Norway, like many other countries, is facing a shortage of qualified workers in many sectors due to the influx of elderly people and a shift towards a more sustainable economy. Therefore, foreign qualifications are especially important to Norway's labor market. Many working immigrants from Eastern Europe apply to Norway's ENIC-NARIC office for credential assessment. A recognition statement from the Norwegian office can help with integration by providing official recognition of an individual's qualifications, facilitating access to employment and educational opportunities. This presentation will focus on vocational education in Poland and Lithuania at EQF levels 4 and 5, with an analysis of similarities and differences between the education systems in Norway, Poland, and Lithuania. By exploring the vocational education systems of these countries, it will be possible to identify how recognition of foreign qualifications can benefit Norway's labor market in the face of the challenges posed by the aging population and the green shift.
